Review: The rite is a horror genre where storyline delves more upon exorcism than a horrible creature threatening fear. The storyline is still similar to the ones before and the storyline has few good situations making an interesting narration and not to mention horror and fear. The visual images are scarier and intense while the cast of Anthony Hopkins makes the performance splendid. The marketing and sales promotions have been somewhere less on the brand promotions where the personality of the movie and positioning has not much to offer as a horror movie but little is shown by way of exorcism. The sequel doubts are cleared after watching the movie only where the interesting scenes full of horror and the different end prove the movie is not a remake.
There are several theories for the preponderance of female victims is women are more intuitive and in touch with their spiritual side, the Devil targets women specifically to use them to tempt men or as Father Bamonte [an exorcist] suggests, it may simply be because more women than men are willing to seek out an exorcist.
I like the latter point most. Makes the most sense.
