Review: If you want to produce a mindlessly fun movie and make a profit, then hire Bruce Willis as your fading older, out of favor cop and Tracy Morgan as his buffoonish sidekick. Toss in pro-sleazebag Sean William Scott from American Pie fame and Ice Age (the voice of Crash) and you have a winner. Get Kevin Smith to make it happen on-camera and you have a double winner. I'm not like other critics who use Shakespearean standards to evaluate contemporary acting performances. My main criterion is a question: Did the actor play the role as designed? All three of the stars of this film gave evidence to answer a resounding YES. I don’t understand the nose elevation routine by film critics who go to American theaters to watch action comedies and leave holding their noses. Relax and enjoy the Americana, especially if it is starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. Willis was back to his foul-mouthed genuinely jaded cop self in this flick. The last DieHard film was written like a Disney family script with nary an f-word throughout. Not so in Cop Out. Bruce Willis even seemed a tad young for his obvious years by loosening up his lips a little bit. Morgan puts the "o" in pendejo. The number of times he circles his lips in horror at something Willis says or does in his direction is the root of many laughs throughout the film. I think that is what makes Morgan funny- he is surprised when his stupidity results in a coal shovel to the face. Morgan makes a good butt for all the jokes in this film. Sean William Scott provides the mortar for this film by giving Willis and Morgan the material to rise to the occasion as ultimate heroes. The script isn't the best. But the film is well-directed by veteran Kevin Smith.
